"141b" takes its final bow, "245fa" takes the stage!

In May 2025, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the "National Plan for China's Implementation of the Montreal Protocol (2025-2030)," which explicitly stated that "the polyurethane foam industry will be prohibited from producing products using HCFC-141b as a blowing agent starting July 1, 2026." This policy marks a crucial step forward for China in fulfilling international environmental conventions and collaboratively addressing ozone layer depletion and climate change.

What is HCFC-141b?

141b is short for "dichlorofluoroethane," with the chemical formula CCl2FCH3, and is widely used as a blowing agent in polyurethane foam. The chlorine atoms in the 141b molecule decompose under ultraviolet light, and the active chlorine atoms react chemically with ozone molecules, breaking down ozone into oxygen, thus damaging the ozone layer. According to the Montreal Protocol, 141b is listed as a controlled substance.

Solution: HFC-245fa

Wanhua Energy Saving sets a benchmark for the green transformation of the polyurethane industry. Its HFC-245fa environmentally friendly foaming system boasts an ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) of 0, a suitable boiling point, and combines safety with process compatibility, resulting in superior performance and a lower carbon footprint for end products.

Currently, the HFC-245fa environmentally friendly foaming system is applied in multiple fields, including construction and cold chain logistics.

Clear waters and green mountains are invaluable assets. Wanhua Energy Saving, shouldering the mission of promoting downstream applications of polyurethane and bravely undertaking social responsibility, has overcome numerous technical challenges in the development of environmentally friendly foaming systems through technological innovation. This has created a replicable and scalable green transformation path for the industry, driving the polyurethane industry towards accelerated high-quality development.
